The F.B.I. estimates that U.S. businesses lose tens of billions of dollars every year due to theft of company data. The cost of identity theft is predicted to be $8 billion by 2005. All the electronic security measures in the world are useless if you’re throwing out confidential hard copies and disks by the truckload. Putting your trust in an outside firm to dispose of confidential data is not the answer. By outsourcing your company’s document disposal, you effectively relinquish control of the program.

NEW LAWS MAKE DOCUMENT DESTRUCTION A KEY ASPECT OF BUSINESS
Today, proper destruction of information is a necessary business activity. Theft of company records is the
leading source of identity theft and, by law,
the company is responsible for any information
about its employees or clients that leaks out.
- Increasing numbers of federally mandated privacy
acts, such as HIPAA and Gramm-Leach-Bliley, are
being enacted to ensure that sensitive consumer information is adequately protected.
- In addition, a company could forfeit its legal rights to defend company secrets and proprietary
knowledge if it fails to protect that information
through improper disposal.
- Simply put, failure to shred sensitive
documents before they leave your control
puts your entire business in jeopardy.

STRIP CUT VS. CROSS CUT?
Strip-cut shredders shred documents into narrow strips ranging from 3/32" to 1/2" depending on security level required. Strips are equal in length to original document. Strip-cut models are generally less expensive than cross-cut models. Cross-cut models shred documents in two directions for extra security. Shred sizes range from 5/16" x 3" to 1/32" x 3/16". Smaller shreds also mean less frequent bag changes
